Meet the Administrator

Timothy Schick

Timothy Schick has served as the administrator of the Providence Newspaper Guild since 1990. Prior to coming to work in Rhode Island, he worked as a reporter for nine years at the Albany Times Union, where he also served as president of the Albany Newspaper Guild. In 1989, he was awarded the Guild Service Award, the highest award given by The Newspaper Guild for rank and file activism. Schick earned a masters degree in industrial labor relations from the University of Rhode Island in 1996.

The Administrator’s job includes contract negotiating, grievance processing, and assisting the officers in the performance of their duties. The administrator reports to the Executive Committee.

Schick serves on the board of the Rhode Island Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (RICOSH), and is a member of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO Executive Committee.

In January 1999, Schick was selected as one of four CWA representatives to go to Japan as part of a program on Japanese labor relations sponsored by the Japan Institute of Labor. Click on the link to see Schick’s report on labor reporting in the Japanese media.
