Contract 2000

Guild Bargaining Bulletin #9

The company announced Tuesday (Dec. 28) that as of Jan. 1 it will unilaterally implement a series of contract changes, including:

eliminating parking;
taking away one personal day;
making employees wait an extra two years for a third week of vacation;
increasing the costs of medical insurance; and
making new hires wait an extra two months before becoming eligible for medical insurance.

This comes on top of the earlier company announcement that medical insurance plans are being changed.

The Guild has filed new unfair labor practice charges and grievances over the company's actions.

The company has also failed to offer any significant improvement in the pension, 401k, or other benefit plans.

"They are taking things away and giving us nothing in return," said Guild president Bob Jagolinzer.

The only positive movements Tuesday were a company offer of a one-month contract extension, (including no waiver of the Guild legal challenges to the unilateral changes) and agreement to upgrade the pay of library assistants and research analysts.

The next negotiating sessions are set for Dec. 29 and Jan. 11, 17, 21 and 24.
